The director of the Secret Service, Kimberly A. Cheatle, will appear before Congress on Monday, July 22, 2024, to testify about recent incidents involving the agency.
Cheatle's testimony comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Secret Service following a series of high-profile security breaches, including the intrusion of a man carrying a knife onto the White House grounds in March and the use of a stolen car to ram a Secret Service checkpoint near the Capitol in April.
Lawmakers are expected to question Cheatle about the agency's response to these incidents, as well as its overall preparedness to protect the president and other dignitaries.
Cheatle's testimony is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM ET in the House Appropriations Committee hearing room.
